Classification Introduction
  • The tribe Brachypteromatini Sama, 2008 currently contains 3 species in 1 genus. Photographs of 3 exemplar specimens are currently available for this tribe.
Diagnostic Features of Adults
  • Body small to moderate-sized, from less than 10 mm to between 10-40 mm; generally elongate, Head width variable, distinctly wider than pronotum or note. Eyes not distinctly emarginate, not surrounding antennal insertions and forming two distinct lobes (upper and lower). Antennae generally filiform, unarmed; antennae 11-segmented, short, not extending beyond tip of abdomen. Pronotum generally elongate (distinctly longer than wide); lateral margins of pronotum with distinct blunt tubercles; pronotum shape distinctly narrower basally. Elytra brachypterous (distinctly shorter than abdomen); elytral apices without distinct spines. Metafemoral length compared to profemora variable, about as long or distinctly longer.
  • "Similar to Molorchini, except eyes reduced and lateral (upper lobes absent) and with short erect hair between the ommatides; mandibles without a short tooth and not fringed on the inner edge, mesonotum with stridulatory plate, front coxal cavities closed behind, metendosternite of peculiar shape... without lateral arms, lateral laminae extremely narrow, anterior projections for tendons well developed, the stalk widened; wing venation: A1 absent; male genitalia: endophallus without basal sclerites; female genitalia: ovipositor with styli inserted laterally."
