Classification Introduction
  • The tribe Hexoplonini Martins, 2006 currently contains 155 species in 21 genera. Photographs of 15 exemplar specimens are currently available for this tribe.
Diagnostic Features of Adults
  • Body moderate-sized, between 10-40 mm; generally elongate, rarely with metallic reflection. Head width compared to pronotum variable, distinctly wider than pronotum or not. Eyes generally reniform, complete (not completely divided into upper and lower lobes). Antennae generally filiform, armed with spines; antennae 11-segmented, long, extending beyond tip of abdomen. Pronotum variable, from generally elongate (distinctly longer than wide) to approximately subquadrate (about as long as wide); lateral margins of pronotum unarmed, without distinct spines or tubercles. Pronotum shape variable, distinctly narrower basally or not; pronotal surface variable, distinctly shining, glabrous or not. Mesocoxal cavities closed to mesepimeron. Elytra rarely distinctly acuminate (forming an acute point); elytral markings variable, with distinct, raised, yellowish markings (not formed by setae) or without; elytral apices variable, with distinct spines or not. Metafemoral apices variable, with distinct spine at apex or not.
