Classification Introduction
  • The tribe Oemini Lacordaire, 1868 currently contains 278 species in 101 genera. Photographs of 9 exemplar specimens are currently available for this tribe.
Diagnostic Features of Adults
  • Body size variable, from small (less than 10 mm) to moderate-sized (between 10-40 mm); generally elongate or expanded apically. Eye shape variable, from reniform (distinctly emarginate, surrounding antennal insertions, forming two distinct lobes) or completely divided into four separate lobes (two separate lobes per side). Antennae generally filiform, unarmed; antennae 11-segmented, antennal length variable, from short (not extending beyond tip of abdomen) to long (extending beyond tip of abdomen); rarely with distinct tufts of setae (hairs). Pronotum variable, from generally elongate (distinctly longer than wide) to approximately subquadrate (about as long as wide) or transverse (distinctly wider than long); lateral margins of pronotum variable, with distinct blunt tubercles or acute spines or unarmed (without tubercles or spines); pronotum shape variable, distinctly narrower basally or not. Mesocoxal cavities open to mesepimeron. Elytra length generally about as long as abdomen, rarely brachypterous (distinctly shorter than abdomen); elytral apices variable, distinctly acuminate (forming an acute point) or not; elytral apices without distinct spines.
