Classification Introduction
  • The tribe Phlyctaenodini Lacordaire, 1868 currently contains 41 species in 17 genera. Photographs of 1 exemplar specimen are currently available for this tribe.
Diagnostic Features of Adults
  • Body size variable, from small (less than 10 mm) to moderate-sized (between 10-40 mm); generally elongate. Eye shape variable, from trilobate (each eye with three separate lobes) or completely divided into four separate lobes (two separate lobes per side). Antennae generally filiform, unarmed; antennae 11-segmented, antennal length variable, from short (not extending beyond tip of abdomen) to long (extending beyond tip of abdomen). Pronotum variable, from generally elongate (distinctly longer than wide) to approximately subquadrate (about as long as wide) or transverse (distinctly wider than long); lateral margins of pronotum variable, with distinct blunt tubercles or acute spines. Mesocoxal cavities open to mesepimeron. Elytral apices without distinct spines.
