Classification Introduction
  • The tribe Rhopalophorini Blanchard, 1845 currently contains 187 species in 28 genera. Photographs of 21 exemplar specimens are currently available for this tribe.
Diagnostic Features of Adults
  • Body size variable, from small (less than 10 mm) to moderate-sized (between 10-40 mm); generally elongate; with or without metallic reflection. Eyes generally reniform, complete (not completely divided into upper and lower lobes). Antennae generally filiform, unarmed; antennae 11-segmented, long, extending beyond tip of abdomen. Pronotum generally elongate (distinctly longer than wide); lateral margins of pronotum unarmed, without distinct spines or tubercles; Pronotum surface variable, distinctly shining, glabrous or not. Elytral length variable, from brachypterous (distinctly shorter than abdomen) or about as long as abdomen; elytral apices variable, with or without distinct spines. Metafemoral length variable, distinctly longer than profemora or not; metafemora variable, with distinct tufts of setae (hairs) or without.
