Stictoleptura canadensis Classification Family Cerambycidae > Subfamily Lepturinae > Tribe Lepturini > Genus Stictoleptura Diagnostic Features of Larvae Larva. Head thickened, beset with many slender hairs; epistoma abruptly declivous; labrum transversely oval, broadly rounded from behind middle; dorsal angle of mandible abrupt and strong; one prominent ocellus. Proeusternum shining, beset with a number of regularly disposed hairs, otherwise as in Brachyleptura rubrica, but slightly more hairy and tubercles of ampullae slightly larger and more closely placed. The larvae feed in dead, rather solid wood of various species of Pinus and Tsuga. It commonly attacks the heartwood of living trees, gaining entrance through a wound such as a blaze.
