Classification Diagnostic Features of Larvae
  • Larva. Essentially like Typocerus velutinus, form more slender; head slightly more elongate; mandibles shorter, little longer than basal width; ocellus prominent; labrum rectangular, sides rounded, front edge straight and (not roundly curved as in T. velutinus) widest at middle. Spiracles more strongly chitinized. Adapted from Craighead (1923).
Biology and Economic Importance
  • This larva has been reared from dead, moist, decaying wood of Vitis, Fagus and Ulmus, always in contact with the ground. Adapted from Craighead (1923).
