Classification Diagnostic Features of Larvae
  • Mature larva. Length up to 30 mm; maximum breadth (at prothorax) 6 mm. Head moderately depressed, slightly elongate, widest at middle and narrowed and slightly constricted posteriorly. Frontal sutures indistinct; antennal foramen closed behind. Mouthframe rather broadly sclerotized, ferruginous. Frons smooth, testaceous behind front margin; six epistomal setae present. One pair of ocelli present; lens rather indistinct, obscured by sclerotization of gena; pigmented spot indistinct. Hypostoma pale ferruginous, posterior half convex, anterior half steeply sloping down to front margin; several rather long, scattered setae present; sutures distinct, ferruginous. Gular region indiscernible. Antenna 3-segmented; segment 3 elongate. Maxilla with segments 2 and 3 subequal. Labial palpi with segment 2 less than half length of segment 1. Mentum not distinct from submentum. Prothorax with pronotum microgranulate and shining on posterior half. Abdomen with each dorsal ampulla bearing a single transverse furrow and two transverse rows of glabrous, elongate tubercles. Tergite 9 unarmed. Anus trilobate. Epipleurum protuberant on all segments. Pleural tubercle without sclerotized pits. Legs absent. Spiracles with peritreme broadly oval and without marginal chambers. Adapted from Duffy 1957).
