Eunidia fuscostictica

Classification Diagnostic Features of Larvae
  • Mature larva. Form rather slender, cylindrical. Length up to 20 mm; maximum breadth (at prothorax) 3.8 mm. Head very slightly depressed, extremely elongate, with sides slightly constricted medially; frontal sutures indistinct; mouthframe feebly sclerotized, testaceous; six epistomal setae present. One pair of ocelli present; lens strongly protuberant; pigmented spot indistinct. Hypostoma fiat, pale testaceous; gular region undefined, two to three pairs of long, fine setae present. Antenna 2-segmented; segment 2 bearing a conical hyaline process. Maxillary palpi 3-segmented; segment 3 longer than segment 2. Labial palpi with segment 2 as long as segment 1. Mentum distinct from submentum. Prothorax with posterior part of pronotum white, glabrous, and extremely finely longitudinally striate. Eusternum white, glabrous and extremely finely striate. Abdomen with each dorsal ampulla with a single transverse impression and two rows of shining moniliform tubercles. Tergite 9 unarmed. Epipleurum slightly protuberant on all segments. Pleural tubercles without sclerotized pits, broadly oval and bearing two to three fine setae. Anus trilobate. Legs absent. Spiracles with peritreme round, rather thick and testaceous.

Pupa. Length up to 11 mm; maximum breadth 2.9 mm. Head with vertex visible from above and bearing a pair of setae opposite base of each antenna. Front with three to four pairs of setae and clypeus bearing a row of six setae across base. Antennae extending to abdominal segment 2, where they are strongly recurved (antennae incomplete in this specimen). Eyes feebly convex, glabrous. Mandibles each with a pair of setae near middle of outer face. Labrum semicircular. Pronotum without lateral tubercles; disc bearing groups of setae as follows: one group near middle of front margin; two groups across middle and two paramedian groups near posterior margin. Mesonotum and metanotum sparsely setose. Elytra and wings extending as far as abdominal segment 5. Abdomen with tergites 1-7 each with a transverse row of setae only. Tergite 9 produced dorsally into a vertical, tuberculate, spine-like process which is sclerotized apically. Sternites glabrous. Legs with each femur bearing two to three subapical setae; middle and hind femora tuberculate sub-basally; hind femora extending to abdominal segment 3; all tibiae more or less at right angles to longitudinal axis of body. Functional spiracles present on abdominal segments 1-6; peritreme broadly oval, thin and pale. Adapted from Duffy (1957).
