Classification Diagnostic Features of Larvae
  • Mature larva. The following description is based on an unknown species of Dorcadion. Length up to 20 mm; maximum breadth (at prothorax) 6 mm. Head elongate, moderately depressed, widest at anterior third, sides feebly constricted at middle, slightly converging posteriorly; frontal sutures indistinct; antennal foramen closed behind; mouthframe moderately strongly sclerotized, ferruginous. Frons broadly ferruginous, smooth, with eight setiferous pores; six epistomal setae present. One pair of ocelli present; ocellar lens round, flat; pigmented spot partly obscured by sclerotization of gena. Hypostoma flat, mainly testaceous, sutures distinct, incurved; gular region undefined. Antenna 3-segmented. Maxilla with palpal segment 3 elongate, as long as segment 2. Labial palpi with segment 2 cylindrical, about half length of segment 1. Mentum distinct from submentum. Prothorax with pronotum pale testaceous and bearing scattered reddish setae which are more numerous across front margin; posterior area sparsely setose, feebly rugose, shining and non-spiculate. Prosternum with eusternum distinct; triangular and bearing several reddish setae, sternelum glabrous. Abdomen with each dorsal am pull a bearing two distinct transverse furrows which are very feebly tuberculate externally. Tergite 9 unarmed. Epipleurum slightly protuberant on all segments; pleural tubercles bearing several long, fine setae and each with a pair of distinct, sclerotized pits. Anus a transverse cleft.
