Oberea ocellata

Classification Diagnostic Features of Larvae
  • Larva. More slender than Oberea ruficollis; asperities of ampullae a little coarser and body hairs much coarser and darker in color; readily recognized from all other species by the granulate outer face of mandible; two secondary ocelli, the upper situated farther posteriorly, the other below so as to form an equilateral triangle with primary. Adapted from Craighead (1923).
Biology and Economic Importance
  • This larva has been found in two species of Rhus. The work in all respects resembles that of Obrea ruficollis, but the larva bores more extensively in the roots. Two years are required for the larva to mature. The adult flies while the laurel is in bloom. Adapted from Craighead (1923).
