Sphaenothecus bilineatus

Classification Diagnostic Features of Larvae
  • Mature larva. Rather similar to that of Stromatium auratum from which it differs mainly in the following characteristics. Head with front margin nontuberculate; two pairs of widely separated longitudinal carinae present on hypostoma. Ocelli with lens round, protuberant; pigmented spot visible. Antenna with basal membrane short. Labrum as long as or slightly longer than broad. Posterior margin of submentum not produced to overlap hypostoma. Length up to 20 mm; maximum breadth (at prothorax) 4.75 mm. From larvae of the Trachyderini it may at once be distinguished by the absence of sclerotized striate plates on the ventral ampullae. Adapted from Duffy (1960).
Biology and Economic Importance
  • Biology unknown for members of this tribe. Species of this tribe are potentially invasive outside their native range.
