Neoclytus mucronatus

Classification Diagnostic Features of Larvae
  • Larva. Form and body characters similar to those of N. acuminatus second joint of antennae longer than third; palpal joints subequal; posterior band of granulation on proeusternum continuous; body covered with light castaneous hairs.

    Pupa. Prothorax with numerous small chitinous points; spines on abdominal terga as in N. longipes; short conical points on middle and hind femora. Adapted from Craighead (1923).
Biology and Economic Importance
  • This larva attacks dying or dead Carya, mining about as much beneath the bark as in the wood. It is often associated with Scolytus-killed trees. Adapted from Craighead (1923).
