Classification Introduction
  • The tribe Astathini Pascoe, 1864 currently contains 187 species in 23 genera. Photographs of 8 exemplar specimens are currently available for this tribe.
Diagnostic Features of Adults
  • Body small to moderate-sized, approximately 10-40 mm; generally elongate, rarely ovoid; with or without metallic reflection. Eyes completely divided into four separate lobes; eyes distinctly extending laterally or not; eyes extending beyond pronotal margins or not. Antennae filiform; antennal length variable, from short (not extending beyond elytral apices) to long (generally extending beyond elytral apices by several segments). Head without distinct lateral or anterior projections. Pronotum shape variable, from cylindrical (distinctly longer than wide) to approximately subquadrate (about as wide as long); lateral margins of pronotum with or without distinct blunt tubercles. Mesocoxal cavity open to mesepimeron. Wings generally complete. Legs with tarsal claws appendiculate or bifid; claws broadly divergent (divaricate).
