Introduction

The tribe Meroscelisini Thomson, 1861 currently contains ~50 species in 21 genera. Photographs of 13 exemplar specimens are currently available for this tribe.

Diagnostic Features of Adults

Length from about 10 to 42 mm. Body elongate, somewhat dorso-ventrally depressed; color usually uniform, dark or brown. Head wider than long or as wide as long; antennal tubercles distinct, near each other; eyes large, emarginate, coarsely faceted; mandibles usually symmetric. Antenna with 11 segments; in males reaching from basal third of elytra to distinctly surpassing elytral apex; in females never surpassing the abdominal apex; shape of flagellomeres variable. Thorax longer than wide. Pronotum with lateral edges expanded or somewhat downgraded, with spines or projections. Femora from linear to fusiform. Tibiae narrow and elongate. Elytra wider than pronotum, elongate, usually covering the abdomen; lateral edges subparallel or rounded (Galileo, 1987).
