On the left is an example of a pentamerous tarsus. Note that tarsomeres 1-4 are clearly visible and of similar size.

On the right is an example of a psuedotetramerous tarsus. Note that tarsomere 4 is distinctly reduced and concealed within the lobed tarsomere 3.
