Cerbera odollam Gaertn., Fruct. Sem. Pl. 2: 193, t. 124, fig. 1 (1791).
The drupes of C. odollam are called “mintola ball” in the potpourri trade. These are notable for their size (to 10 cm) and fibrous, anastomosing covering of the thick endocarp. Each fruit consists of two mericarps, each enclosing one seed.
Cerbera odollam is native to Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malyasia, Philippines, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands. Cerbera manghas L., found throughout Africa, Asia, and Australia , is very similar.
