Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck, Reise Ostindien 250 (1765).
The fruit of oranges may appear in several forms, as whole fruit, slices, or peels. Whole oranges in potpourri, usually vertically scored with slits 3-10 mm wide, are relatively small, about 3-4 cm high x 4-5 cm wide. Slices are usually larger, 5-7 cm in diameter x about 5 mm thick. Peels are usually broadly triangular, about 4-6 cm long x about 2 mm thick.
Citrus sinensis is probably native to southeastern Asia but widely cultivated in the tropics and subtropics.
