Corymbia ficifolia (F. Muell.) K. D. Hill & L. A. S. Johnson, Telopea 6: 245 (1995).
The fruits of the red-flowering gum are barrel- to urn-shaped woody capsules, 2-3.5 cm long x 2-4 cm wide with deeply enclosed valves. These are sold as “gum nuts ficofolia” in the potpourri trade.
Corymbia ficifolia is endemic to Western Australia but cultivated worldwide for its brilliant flowers.
