Schinus molle L., Sp. Pl. 1: 388 (1753).
The fruits of the Peruvian mastictree or California peppertree are sold in the potpourri trade as “pepperberries.” Drupes are typically pink, globose, 3-5 mm in diameter. These are sometimes eaten but may induce severe asthma attacks in sensitive individuals.
Schinus molle is native to South America but widely cultivated and naturalized around the world. This is a potentially invasive plant species whose fertile seeds should be restricted.
