Sphaeranthus indicus L., Sp. Pl. 2: 1314 (1753).
The inflorescences of East Indian globe-thistle or mundi are sold as “jackie berries” in the potpourri trade. Looking like tiny, globular pineapples, 5-10 mm in diameter, they are often supported on a stalk 0-2 cm long.
Sphaeranthus indicus is native to India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Australia. It has the potential to be an invasive species in tropical climates.
