Taxonomy
Valid name: Bactrocera (Bactrocera) tuberculata (Bezzi, 1916)
Preferred common name: tummy-wood fruit fly
Synonyms:
Chaetodacus tuberculatus (original combination in Bezzi, 1916)
Dacus tuberculatus (subsequent combination in Hardy 1973)
Strumeta tuberculatus (subsequent combination in Perkins 1938)
Morphology-based identification
Bactrocera tuberculata can be identified reliably based on morphology. Spot characters are the interrupted costal band on the wing and black tergites 3–5. The wing pattern can lead to confusion with
B. correcta, but the dark abdominal tergites differentiate it.
Molecular identification
COI sequence data can be used to reliably identify
B. tuberculata (

Distribution
Bactrocera tuberculata is widespread in mainland Southeast Asia from Bhutan to Vietnam.
Further information
Bactrocera tuberculata is reported as a "category C" oligophagous fruit pest in

Vargas RI, Pinero JC, Leblanc L, 2015. An overview of pest species of Bactrocera fruit flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) and the integration of biopesticides with other biological approaches for their management with a focus on the pacific region. Insects 6: 297–318. https://doi.org/10.3390/insects6020297. A category C pest is there defined as "relatively minor oligophagous or specialist fruit or cucurbit pests". Its main host in Thailand is reported to be
Careya sphaerica (Lecythidaceae), commonly known as tummy-wood (
