COI sequence data suggest that B. quadrisetosa is very closely related to - and possibly synonymous with - B. quasiinfulata. The two are also highly similar in morphology, warranting further taxonomic study.
Morphology-based identification
Bactrocera quadrisetosa can be identified reliably based on morphology. It differs from
B. quasiinfulata in the extent of the black markings on the femurs. Spot characters for both are the costal band that extends to vein R4+5, mostly black tergites 3–5, and black front and mid femurs.
Molecular identification
COI sequence data can be used to identify
B. quadrisetosa, it is a close sister to
B. quasiinfulata (

Distribution
Bactrocera quadrisetosa is only known from Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands. This is its presumed native range - but this assessment may be revisited depending on the possible taxonomic confusion with
B. quasiinfulata.
Bactrocera quasiinfulata has been recorded from Vietnam, China, Malaysia (Borneo), and Laos (

Further information
Bactrocera quadrisetosa is reported as a "category D" pest of
Pometia pinnata in

Vargas RI, Pinero JC, Leblanc L, 2015.
