Taxonomy
Valid name:
Bactrocera (
Bactrocera)
trivialis (Drew, 1971)
Preferred common name: New Guinea fruit fly
Synonyms:
Dacus trivialis (original name in Drew, 1971)
Morphology-based identification
Bactrocera trivialis can be identified reliably based on morphology. Spot characters are the costal band crossing vein R2+3 and the abdomen pattern.
Molecular identification
COI sequencing can be used to identify

Distribution
Bactrocera trivialis has been recorded from New Guinea and the Torres Strait Islands, which is its presumed native range.
Further information
Bactrocera trivialis is reported as a "category C" oligophagous fruit pest in New Guinea in

It is of particular concern in Australia, which is close to its current distribution range, and can attack 17 host plants across 10 families, including starfruit, citrus, guava, mango, and chili (
