Morphology-based identification
Bactrocera pyrifoliae can be identified reliably based on morphological characters. Spot characters are the dark mark on the front femur, tapering yellow vittae on the scutum, and unusual abdominal pattern.

Distribution
Bactrocera pyrifoliae is only known from Thailand and Vietnam. Its native range is unclear.
